The Danish Girl was taken from the cinema listings in Qatar, following a protest that broke out on the Internet, where some users felt that the plot of the film, which tells the story of the first sex change successful at the global level, it was inappropriate and immoral even if they love escortsdoha, according to information collected by Doha News.
The Ministry of Culture of the arab nation confirmed the decision not to project the tape via Twitter: “We would like to inform you that the screening of the film The Danish Girl is now prohibited in cinemas. We thank them for their constant vigilance”.
Too many complaints, apparently
This message was a result of numerous complaints that many users made public through the social network where they indicated that the nudity of Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander in the film has contradicted the religion, customs and traditions of the country. In the film, Vikander plays Gerda, a well-known artist of the twentieth century who asks her husband Einer (Redmayne) pose dressed as a woman to paint it, it is here when he realizes that he has always wanted to be a woman.
This is not the first time that Qatar bans a movie, in 2014 did not fail to show the tapes of the biblical Noah and Exodus and edited more than 50 minutes of content of The Wolf of Wall Street Martin Scorsese. The Danish Girl has also been censored in other countries in the Middle East such as Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. Still don’t know if it will premiere in Israel and in Egypt.
Transgenderism was new to Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne chatted with Details magazine about Einar Wegener, a male transgender who becomes Lili Elbe in the tape, The Danish Girl, a role that the actor of The Theory of Everything plays in the film. According to the artist, make this role was not easy as it had to investigate quite a bit about the topic:
“I fell into the clichés of ignorance”, confessed the actor to the publication. “I had not been aware that gender and sexuality were not related. I was confused with the terms transgender and cross-dressing. The wonderful thing is that in the second in which you understand you see how important it is to educate ourselves”.
This is not the first time that Redmayne does a female role, however, says that this time it was different because they kept in character even in the trials, where they dressed and acted like all of a femina: “Just walking to a set full of men and watch the difference as you try, as you observe… the looks were overwhelming,” said the Oscar winner, “Many women with whom I worked told me: ‘Yes, welcome to our world’”.
